Dermaceutic Skin Peel Therapies
What kind of results can I expect from a Peel?
You will see immediate results, and your skin will look fresher, softer and completely rejuvenated, but in order to feel the full benefits it is important to book a course of four to six treatments.
Our clients regularly report having their expectations exceeded by their peel. Clinical studies have shown that after 4 treatments with the TCA peel over 86% of patients demonstrate a substantial improvement in their dark spots, and 94% of patients have fewer wrinkles. We are also pleased to report that over 88% of the patients assessed had an overall reduction in their visible signs of aging.
What are the aftercare Instructions?
A peel is a rejuvenating experience, and as a result you can continue all of your normal activities between each of your sessions. In the days after your Peel you should avoid direct sunlight whenever possible, and wear a strong sun cream when outdoors. If you notice redness and irritation, you may want to apply repairing creams that you practitioner can recommend. After 1 – 3 days, and once redness and irritation has fully subsided, the continued use of a serum is recommended. Your peel should be repeated every two weeks for four to six sessions in total.
What are the contraindications for a peel?
While this procedure is completely safe, we recommend that pregnant or breastfeeding women abstain from peels. Those patients who are already undergoing laser skin rejuvenation should avoid the peel, as well as those who are currently employing retinol products. Those with recent scarring, who have undergone hair removal, those with skin infections (i.e. herpes) and those suffering from sun burns should not have a chemical peel of any kind.
Are there any possible side effects?
For most patients, side effects are minimal. You may experience redness and/or irritation in the first 1 to 3 days after your treatment, but these effects can be managed at home with recommended skin care products. In rare cases, patients report a burning sensation, but this feeling is mild and will dissipate over the next few days.
A TCA Peel is fully customisable for your unique skin care needs, and can help you to look and feel your best by reducing the signs of aging, eradicating acne and giving you smooth, supple skin. It has minimum recovery time, can safely be combined with complementary treatments and is a non-surgical alternative to other, more invasive cosmetic procedures.
How do I prepare for a TCA peel?
The lower strength TCA peels do not require patients to prepare their skin, but for the treatments that contain higher concentrations of trichloroacetic acid patients will be advised to apply Dermaceutic Serum 25 to their facial skin twice per day for the two weeks prior to their peel. In the evenings, patients should apply Turnover or Light Ceutic. These pre-treatment preparations will improve peel results, and will also help to identify potential allergies and skin sensitivities.
What does the TCA peel entail?
The appointment sessions are usually no more than 15 to 30 minutes. When you arrive at the clinic, you will be made to feel relaxed and comfortable. Your skin will first be cleaned with Dermaceutic Cleanser 5, and then gently rinsed with clean water. At this point, 1.5 mL of TCA will be applied to your face and allowed to dry for 1 minute. You will feel a stinging sensation as the peel solution is applied and visible frosting of the skin, but the feeling will quickly pass once the practitioner applies the fan and the post-peel cream, which you leave on until the next morning.
The peel causes the outer layers of skin to flake and peel off over the following days. The new regenerated skin underneath is usually smoother, less wrinkled and more even in both tone and colour than the old skin.
There is some down time, which consists of redness and skin tightness for one to two days after the TCA peel, then 3-4 days of peeling and flaking
Expected Treatment Outcomes with TCA Peels
Day 1
Immediately post peel you leave the clinic with the post peel cream applied. The skin will look slightly red for a couple of hours and will generally feel comfortable. You should not touch the skin, and do not apply any creams or use water on the face until next morning. Avoid extremes of heat exposure and sun exposure.
Day 2
The skin will begin to feel tight. Wash the face with the cleansing foam, and the treatment creams recommended should be applied morning and night. Sun protection of at least Factor 30 should be applied.
Day 3
Some pigmentation change or peeling may be noticed at this stage as the skin begins to dry and will start to flake. The treatment creams recommended should be used at least twice daily.
Days 4-7
The peeling eases and the healing process takes place. You should continue with the recommended creams and sun protection and not attempt to peel or pick off the skin or use abrasives, scrub creams or products containing AHA’s or retinol.
